Location of Zuluk

Zuluk has located at 10,000 ft. altitude at a distance of 90 km from Gangtok. From there one can visit the higher location also like Nathula Pass, Tsomgo Lake, and Baba Mandir.

1. Zuluk Loop

Absolutely stunning loop with 30 -32 hairpins like zigzag curves. The view of these loops is more charming from above a viewpoint. In winter the roads become more beautiful with snow-covered mountain slopes enough to make anyone speechless.


2. Old Baba Mandir

A temple of belief in the memory of Sepoy Harbhajan Singh of the Indian Army. Some people believe that his spirit still guarding the Indo-China border. This place and surroundings are maintained by the Indian Army.

 

3. Memenchu Lake

One of the stunning lakes in east Sikkim situated just 4 km away from Baba Mandir. The journey through a narrow but the awesome beautiful flowery motorable road is more attractive. The serenity of this place is worth mentioning as it is less crowded till now. The greenery of surroundings with pine and conifers make this place more beautiful. The lake remains frozen from January to the end of March making it an absolute destination for the trek.

 

4. Thambi View Point

As the name suggests, situated at an altitude of 11,000 ft above sea level, this place offers a seamless view of Zuluk zigzag with 32 hairpins. This place is also famous for Sunrise view and the entire Kanchenjunga range.

 

5. Lungthung

Lungthung is also known as Dhupidhara by locals. It is 2000 ft higher than Thambi i.e. 13000ft altitude above sea level and offer a clearer view of Mt. Kanchenjungha range. Viewing Sunrise from here will be a lifelong experience.

 

6. Nathang Valley

Ahead of 8km above Thambi, Nathang rather Gnathang is known as the Switzerland of India. From January to April the area is covered under a thick blanket of snow and the rest of the year very cold weather prevailed here. Extremely beautiful and a must-visit place for Old Silk Route travelers.

7. Ganek

A stunning place in between Zuluk and Thambi best for its Sunrise view. This place offers a magnificent view of Mt. Kanchenjungha in the morning.

This is a small village and the highest point on Zuluk and Silk route. This place is better known for the highest Golf Course in the world and the Kupup Lake better is known as the Elephant Lake or

9. Nag Temple

A less crowded and visited temple with a cave-like structure. The main deity is a huge cobra statue or Nag Devta (Snake God). The serenity and ambiance of the temple is an enjoyable drug Zuluk Tour.

10. Tukla Valley:

In the old silk route tour and on the way to Tsomgo Lake from Zuluk, you will find this magnificent valley in between Nathang Valley and Kupup. Located at an altitude of 12500 ft above sea level, this place offers a dazzling view of the snow-capped mount Kanchenjungha throughout the year.

11. Jelep La

Located at an altitude of 14000 ft above sea level this is the last point of the Old Silk Route Tour on the Indian side. From ancient times this small village border town was the connecting hub between the Indian state of Sikkim and Lasa, the capital of Tibet. After the 1962 Indo-Sino war, this pass is closed, and traveling for common people is restricted.

 

12. Tsomgo Lake:
Obviously, a must-visit place for every Sikkim traveler. Located at an altitude of 12,000 ft above sea level and 50 km from Gangtok, Tsomgo, or Changu is an oval-shaped 1 km long lake made from the glacier. No visit to Sikkim, Gangtok, or Silk Route is complete without visiting this place. This is a must-visit place in the wish list of every Sikkim traveler.



How to get a Zuluk Permit?

Getting permits for Zuluk Tour is not a big deal. You can easily get it by producing some under mentioned documents to Sikkim Tourism Office at Gangtok.
Or, you can get it from any registered tour operator by providing documents. Following documents are required for Zuluk Permit:

  • Voter ID card for Adult

  • Birth Certificate for Child along with one Photo ID card (School ID)

  • 4 Copies of Passport Size of Photo

  • Photocopies - 4 No. of the above documents




How to Reach Zuluk

First of all to reach Zuluk, you must book a private car for your entire days of the trip as the place is remote and no shared vehicle is available. So, you need to hire a car from NJP, Bagdogra, or Siliguri. It will take almost 6 hrs to cross 130 km distance. If you are traveling from Gangtok, you will cover almost 90 km in 4 hrs depending upon the weather condition.
